Urartu Collection

The inspiration for this collection comes from two great institutions by the name of Urartu– the first is the powerful ancient Armenian kingdom, the second is a special place in Glendale that Armenians have come to know and love. 

The kingdom of Urartu, also known as the Kingdom of Van, was a civilization which developed in ancient Armenia, eastern Turkey, and northwestern Iran from the 9th century BCE. The kingdom boasted a lively production in the arts, which explains why its legacy continues to inspire Armenians and their art centuries later. 

While the kingdom of Urartu was run by many great men, the café of Urartu and its esteem in the Armenian community can be attributed to just one man: Urik Ghazalian. An immigrant from Iran, this man was not only a veteran, a risk-taker, a provider, and a beloved father, he was also a pillar of the community. The success of his family, Urartu Coffee, and even this collection is all in his name.
